You Can Never Take Me

 

I will not let you win. I find myself time and time again, buried beneath my scars and the pain you have inflicted. I have been foolish, I believed there was a magic, a prayer, a machine that could take away the sorrow. But I was wrong- the magic, the prayer, the machine - is myself. You can inflict damage upon me, but you can never take me and even if you try I will always rebuild myself. I no longer fear you, I no longer fear the pain, the nightmares, the flashbacks - the horrors. I only fear myself. I have lived my life in fear of the wrong person. Never again. Never again. Never again I say over and over, screaming inside of my head attempting to take back my power. It is my power.

When my daughter hugs me and my husband looks at me with a sigh. I sigh too.  Because we are alive and truly what a miracle it is. We can breathe in this sweet country air. We can sit by the water and watch it glisten in the sun. We can sit under the moon and reflect on all ...
